I spent the evening the day Ryuichi Sakamoto passed playing and improvising over his music. It's difficult to put into words to express the impact Sakamoto's work had on me as both a young person and now as an artist. He was the very model of the kind of artist I wanted to be - forever curious about the world of sound and its potential to move the spirit.

I hope this two minute piano improvisation / extrapolation over his chords somehow capture how much I truly admired him as not only an artist but activist and human being - and more importantly, my thanks.

The title of both this piece and my forthcoming ep, where it will appear in a slightly different form, comes from a post that the Thai filmmaker Apichatpong Weerasethakul wrote upon Sakamoto's passing: "Even in this tremendous silence, your waves persist."
